The night I turned into an Animal

Another season final. It seems there have been so many in the last few weeks: Greys Anatomy, Desperate house wives, Lost...you get the point. But Saturday night's Live Finale of Spike TV’s "The Ultimate Fighter” has changed me. Changed me into a FREAKING ANIMAL!!

To take a step back, before that fateful day. The show is about the UFC "Ultimate Fighting Champion". It's a cross between WWF (WWE, whatever they are calling themselves these days) and boxing. It’s two men in not a ring, but an octagon. And they can pretty much attack each other in any way except for kicking the groin region, biting and kneeing your opponent in the head when he is on his knees. It’s pretty intense. I was a little squeamish watching these people beat each others heads in and watching the blood spill down their faces but after 10 weeks of reality TV you become attached to the people even if they are harming each other.

Back to the live finale. Who ever wins the fight wins a 6 figure contract and is deemed the "Ultimate Fighter". Chris and I like to take friendly bets so He takes Ed, the favorite and I take Kendall the underdog. There are three 5 minute rounds unless the fight gets stopped by TKO or if the ref stops the fight. The fight is AMAZING. It’s back and forth. With 1 and 1/2 minutes in the last round it looks like my man Kendall is going down, he’s got Ed on his back side which is a horrible position to be in. Then Amazingly Kendal breaks free and is laying on his back with Ed facing away on top of him and he is choking him to death. I at this point become so excited that I start frantically jumping up and down on the couch screaming "CHOKE HIM, CHOKE HIM" at the top of my lungs. It was so exciting at the time but looking back I feel that I really had been transformed into a horrible human being. I now realize the appeal of these fights and how addicting they really are.

By the Way. The Ultimate Fighter 4 starts this August on Spike TV and you bet your ass i'll be watching!
